My philosophy is simple - strive to breed the best possible dogs, possessing
outstanding temperament and maintaining the true type and working drive of the
Australian Shepherd. I selectively plan each cross with the intention of improving
on the previous generation. Mine is a small breeding program, producing only one or
two litters per year while selecting for temperament, type, structure and working
ability. I do not breed for profit, fame or to finance any activity. I breed from
the firm belief that the breeding of dogs is a grave responsibility and is not be
undertaken lightly. Improvement in the overall quality of the Miniature Australian
Shepherd as a whole is of prime consideration with each litter.
Realizing the potential of these incredible small Aussies, I founded the first
national breed club in 1989, the Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of the U.S.A.
(MASCUSA; now known as NAMASCUSA). I served as President for 2-1/2 years and
Editor of the newsletter "The Mini Connection" for 1 year. MASCUSA had the
support and backing of the National Stock Dog Registry (NSDR, the first official
registry
for Australian Shepherds) and respected members of the Australian Shepherd
Club of America served on our board. I am ever grateful to Juanita Russell
at the NSDR for
her help and assistance in getting the breed club off the ground, as well
as to all those ASCA members who shared my vision. The board worked long
and hard on methods
to establish the credibility of the Miniature Australian Shepherd and formulate
methods to improve quality. It was my goal that all small Aussies receive
the recognition they deserved, as there was great potential in them.
The goals that served as the basis for establishing the first
breed club are still the basis of my philosophy on breeding these dogs.
In keeping with the belief that the mini Aussie is simply a small Australian
Shepherd, I still use Australian Shepherds in my breeding program to maintain
vigor, improve quality, and maintain strong Australian Shepherd type.My
ideal miniature Aussie matures to a preferrred size
of 15" to 18" in height, weighing approximately 25 to 40 pounds. He is healthy,
intelligent, athletic and a superbly versatile companion.
